The word change has always been an important part of my life, from when I first read the novel Parable of the Sower in high school and Octavia Butler’s words rung in my mind as though a bell were struck: “All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you. The only lasting truth is change. God is change.”

At age 18 I boarded the greyhound bus from smokey hellhole that was my life, born and raised, in Los Angeles and traveled to Northern California cbd shop to attend community college. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew that i wanted to do it far from LA. From there I transferred to San Francisco State University, and from there to Graduate School at the University of Arizona, and from there to teach English as a professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China where lived, with some transience to Wuhan and Nanjing for a total of 2 years before I had a longing to return home.
