On April 6, 2018, Wizards will release one final Duel Deck, Elves vs. Inventors. Duel Decks have been a product for ten years, ten years, and while not always a slam dunk, they always seemed to me like a fairly welcome and appreciated product.

They didn’t always get them right. Looking at my own reviews, my grades were D, B-, D+, C+/B-, D and A- all of which averages out to a total GPA or Grade Product Average of C+ / B-

And I have always maintained the message that, with very rare exception, they are typically worth the MSRP price and great fun for casual players.

The typical problems with duel decks were a lack of meaningful reprints, and imbalanced gameplay. Nonetheless, I do not think Duel Decks should be done away with. Just because Wizards apparently struggled with making great Duel Decks doesn’t mean the idea behind them was flawed, in fact, they lasted for 10 years which I thinks speaks to the interest in these. Were I to go back over one’s from before when I started reviewing, I think many, many prior duel decks would have gotten solid A grades: Izzet vs Golgari is one I can say is an A, Knights versus Dragon, Nicol Bolas vs Ajani, Jace vs Chandra especially with it’s experiment in exclusive anime art, to name just a few. Many in the last few years were lackluster, but that doesn’t mean you axe the product line, it means you try and fix it.
